CUSTOMS PROCEDURE – TRANSIT

Goods imported into the Community from third countries must be placed under a customs procedure – transit. According to the Community Customs Code, all goods in transit must have a person in charge - the Principal, who carries out the customs procedure - transit and performs the duties of the person in charge. For goods transported through the land border crossings of Latvia, the transit customs procedure is performed in the Daugavpils, Rēzekne and Šķirotava transfer railway stations. For goods imported by sea transport, the transit customs procedure is performed in the Ventspils, Liepāja, Riga: Krasta, Mangaļi, Ziemeļblāzma railway stations.

To carry transit goods by rail, the consignee, the consignor or the authorised person must have an agreement with the principal about the performance of the transit customs procedure. The duties of the principal can be undertaken by any person entitled to do so.

The State Joint-Stock Company Latvijas Dzelzceļš provides principal services on the basis of an agreement.
